"Notes to Dad" is a means of communication to my late father, Viet Ha. The title of the book derives from the cover picture, which takes place during the three-year death anniversary of my dad. During every anniversary, we release small notes, attached to balloons, with hopes of our messages reaching my dad in the afterlife. This book serves as another message to my father, displaying the person I have become and the emotions that have resulted from his absence. Additionally, the images explore the shifted dynamic of family due to grief and the everchanging meaning of home as I continue to age away from the town I grew up in.
Allison Ha is a Filipino-Vietnamese American artist from Simi Valley, California.
